Goals Recap - Week 1

I know it's only January 3rd but progress is always something fun to document (and great at keeping me on track!). How am I doing with my New Year's goals?

Goals for Blog

  • Regular Posting Schedule - I successfully did everything I wanted to and planned this week! Time to get next week's posts started :)
  • Design - I edited photos for the post today and have been using my DSLR much more. I also read up on aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings to remind myself how to use them. I am thinking about how I want the new design to look.
  • Exposure - I posted a Graze review (and put it on Twitter), which got some traffic. My goal is to have an average of 50 hits per day by the end of January. It seems like I get different numbers in each report I look at for traffic (Blogger's Stats vs AdSense Dashboard vs Google Analytics), so I might just use the AdSense one as the "actual" numbers.

Goals for Self

  • Health/Wellness - I went on walks both Wednesday and Thursday, and ate a salad two days in a row. My mom just about fell out of her chair when I told her I ate a salad for dinner last week, it's that big of a deal. I have resisted most of the sweets, but not all (we had chocolate with breakfast on New Year's Day, after all). I got a haircut on Tuesday at Studio 2Ten; that's where I last got it cut, too, and if it's possible, I probably will continue to go there for the whole time we're in Bloomington (I've never had a consistent stylist before, so I'm looking forward to this!). I bought some things to take care of my nails and they are looking pretty :) (PS. If anyone has tips on this, that'd be awesome. I was a tomboy all throughout the part of life where I was supposed to learn how to be a girl and missed out on how to do EVERYTHING! These days I mostly just watch everything that Eric's sister does when she's here and copy her...)
  • Education - I read some photography tutorials from Canon.
  • Business - This week I've just been concentrating on making sure I had a strong first week of the year for the blog.

How are you doing with your New Year's goals? I never beat myself up about things if I fall off the horse (it seems to be mentally detrimental to me), but just pick up again when I can. Everybody handles it differently, though. Have a great weekend!

  1. I LOL'd (like actually) when I read that you were trying to take care of your nails. I have been biting my nails for years, and I decided that over Christmas break I was going to try (again) to stop biting them. I will admit that I was inspired by Pinterest, but the tipping point for me was when I thought about how unhygienic and unprofessional it would be to be biting my nails in the hospital/clinic next year.

I'm pretty new to this whole nail care thing myself, but I thought I would share what has worked for me so far. I've been keeping my nails painted (I have been painting them like every 3-4 days over break, which I don't think is going to be very realistic during classes. So I will probably have to look for pale color that don't show chips as much & try to do them 1X/week, which may still be way too ambitious.). Moisturizing my hands seems to help. For whatever reason, when my hands feel moisturized, I'm less compelled to bite them. And I've been keeping a nail file, hand lotion, and something to clean under my nails in my purse, so that I can fix handnails and clean under my nails without putting them in my mouth.

It's working so far. And I'm hoping I can finally stop biting my nails, so that my hands don't look like a hungry beaver gnawed on them all the time.

    1. I love your thought about looking professional. I am going to steal that. Maybe being a grown up is having nice nails? Ha! I have been keeping them painted (or trying to). Eric's family got me one of those gel nail things with the LED light for my birthday, which makes painting them super fast but I am kind of nervous about what the LED light does to your skin, so I also sometimes use my old nail polish which takes longer and seems like it comes off faster. The moisturizing tip is gold! I think that's why I bite mine so much, because the skin around the nail is hard and I want it to go away! Thanks dude. Good luck with yours, too. Long distance no-more-biting-nails buddies :)
