Pensacola, FL: Pensacola Bay Brewery

Before we took off for our scenic drive, we stopped at the Pensacola Bay Brewery. Going to breweries at this point is kind of a compulsion. We heard about this brewery and were recommended to check it out from my friend Venus, who we were staying with in Pensacola.

Without even realizing it, we went there on St Patrick's Day, and they were decorated for the occasion. We tried a few beers (you can ask for a sample of something you're interested in). I tried the Lighthouse Porter to begin with, since another compulsion is gravitating toward anything lighthouse-themed. It was good but wasn't what I was looking for (a little too coffee-y for 5pm), so I tried the DeSoto Berliner Weisse Ale, a wheat beer brewed with raspberries. That was more like it. Eric had the Pensacola Bay's ESB, which he liked as well. (Eric also tried the Riptide Amber Ale at the restaurant we were at the previous night, and that was pretty good too.)

They had some neat decorations on the wall, although I am a sucker for anything nautical.

We didn't tour the brewery (they only offer them on Saturdays), but there is a giant window from the taproom that you can look into to check it out.

I'm glad we were able to get a brewery in on our trip (this is the only one we went to -- the only other one we saw was still being built in Apalachicola; we also ended up at HopJack's for dinner, and they have quite the beer menu), especially on St Paddy's Day. (No green beer for us, though.)
