Bloomington, IN: Hopscotch Coffee

A new coffee shop opened in town and my friend Christine and I went to check it out last weekend before the Handmade Market! She is a coffee lover; I actually don't like coffee at all, but their website told me they had hot chocolate so I was on board.

Hopscotch Coffee is located on the near south side of Bloomington (right at the place where one-way Walnut and College turn into two-way Walnut) on Dodds St. in a building known as the B-line Station. If you type in their address on Google Maps, you will get taken to a storage unit place a block short of where you really want to be. Keep going forward until you see a bright yellow building on your left. There is street parking out in front (no meters!) and also a parking lot in the back (which was on your left before you hit the building).

The sign and entrance for Hopscotch is at the very end of the building's porch, so keep walking until you find it.

Hopscotch sources their food items from a few local places around Bloomington, such as the Bloomington Bagel Company, Rainbow Bakery, and Piccoli Dolci (the farmer's market lady who always has a line a mile long -- for a reason).

You can also buy coffee to take home.

The atmosphere is friendly and intimate. It is not a big place at all, but there are several tables and booths. We actually sat at a cool bar on fun barstools.

I had a Piccoli Dolci croissant and a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate had what tasted like delicious homemade whipped cream (with cinnamon dusted on top!), and the croissant was amazing.

Christine had a lemon tart, also from Piccoli Dolci, and some kind of Ethiopian coffee she thought was really good (Christine, if you remember what you had, feel free to put it in the comments :) ). Like I said, I know nothing about coffee, but Christine has had quite a bit of coffee in her lifetime so I trust her opinion on this.

The back wall of the coffee shop was really cool. I thought it was wallpaper, but Christine pointed out that it was hand painted! How awesome is this. It's really neat in real life (much better than in a photo).

There is also outside seating if the weather is nice. It was pretty cold the morning we were there, though, so we sat inside and kept warm.

These three chairs are actually kid-sized! I hadn't seen tiny chairs like this before and thought they were awesome.

Hopscotch is right off the B-line trail, perfect to stop in on your morning walk and grab a bite to eat or something to drink. They are open Monday-Friday from 7am-8pm, Saturday from 8-8, and Sunday from 9-8.

Let me know if you check it out and what you got there! This whole section of town is looking at a great influx of businesses, so I'm sure I'll be back in this area sometime soon.
